Singapore’s legal brothels in Geylang

Like Hong Kong with it’s one-for-one brothels, Singapore is a country that is rational enough to legalize and regulate the sex trade. The result is a huge swath of a district in the city state called Geylang where the streets are lined with gold.

Okay, it’s not gold. But it’s close enough. The streets are lined with houses converted into brothels that are legalized, authorized and regulated by the government. Game on.

The Geylang red light district

Geylang is a whole neighborhood. Every taxi knows it and the train stops there too. The main street is filled with coffee shops and restaurants. The ones with outdoor seating are visited by old Chinese and Vietnamese women that try to pick up the even older local guys who plant themselves in the seats for hours at a time. They usually ignore foreigners except maybe to give them an odd look once in a while.

The brothels are situated on both sides of the even numbered Lorongs between 4 and 20. Lorong is the local word for alley but these streets are bigger than what I’d call alleys back home. One side of the main street is lined with even numbered Lorongs. The other is lined with odd numbered Lorongs. It’s like Sukhumvit in Bangkok. It’s easier to walk around though. You can come and go as you please and the streets are clearly numbered.

The legal brothels in Geylang mostly look like houses. Some places that are actually houses have put up signs to tell people they are not brothels. The brothels are easy to find though. They either have red numbers, guys standing outside trying to wave you in or big bright numbers that make them look like little bitty casinos.

Most of the brothels have mainland Chinese women inside. Some of them have women from Thailand. The women from Thailand can speak English and are more welcoming of foreigners but they are also older and less attractive. The Chinese women are anywhere from 19 to 30 years old and usually good looking with petite frames and pale skin. I’ve never been rejected from any brothel but I’ve heard it can happen.

How the Geylang brothels work

Fucking a girl in one of the brothels is as easy as walking in and paying the fee. Finding a girl you like can be done by walking from brothel to brothel and checking out the women working though some of the bosses don’t seem to like this much. A more modern way is to do research online at a site like Sammy Boy Forum but doing that requires that you decipher the local version of “English” into something that you can actually understand. I don’t have the time or energy so I just hit up houses I trust and take a look at a new place every now and again.

I’ve never walked into a house that didn’t have at least one woman that was good enough for a poke. I can be picky at times but here it’s all good. Conversation and personality only matter so much when you don’t even speak the same language. You can also ask a house to call in a woman from another place or of a certain size or look if you know enough of  the language to do that. I never bother but some Singaporean guys seem to revel in the practice.

The brothels are surprisingly clean inside considering what they are. When you enter and pick a woman you go to her room. She’ll tell you to shower while she covers the bed in new sheets or towels. Then she’ll throw a condom on your ding dong and give it a suck. After that it’s sex in a few positions until you bust. You can go for additional rounds but it costs more money. A regular fuck session costs 50, 100 or 150 Singapore Dollars depending on the house and sometimes the lady. The price is given up front and that’s also when you pay so there are no surprises.

Most of the women are pretty happy and fun. If you know a bit of their language you can even have a bit of a good time with them before, after and during the session. That is if you’re not simply looking for a quick pump and dump. I’ve had my share of meals with women working in these brothels and it was always a good experience. I don’t know if my attitude would be as good if I had to spread my legs for fat sweaty guys all day to make a living but I’ve never tried it so who knows?

At night the streets of Geylang fill up with freelance prostitutes from Vietnam, Indonesia and maybe some other Asian countries. There are also some brothels with Indian women on the outskirts. I’ll talk about all that another time. Don’t hold your breathe though. They’re mostly on the big and old side.
